Since 2017, I’ve had the pleasure of serving as your Position 6 Trustee on the Humble ISD School Board. I am the proud father of 3 young kids, Addison (10), Blake (6), and Luke (8 months), at least one of whom will be an Humble ISD student for each of the next 18 years. My wife, Jennifer, is a former Humble ISD teacher who now owns and operates Carney’s Tutoring, an individual and group tutoring business in Kingwood’s Town Center.
I serve as a Tax Director for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Houston, where I have worked for the last 12 years. In my role as Tax Director, I serve as the U.S. tax advisor for many different international investment funds, primarily based in London, England. In my role with PwC, I have gained extensive business knowledge and experience and am one of the senior leaders of a team of approximately 60 professionals. I regularly lead large, complex engagements and collaborate with teams across the globe on a daily basis. I obtained my CPA license in 2007 and graduated from Baylor University with a BBA in Accounting and a Master’s of Taxation in 2006.
As a highly-successful CPA with a world class organization like PwC, a parent with several young children, and a spouse of a former Humble ISD teacher and local small business owner, I bring a unique perspective to the Humble ISD board. I am able to look at issues from many different perspectives and am able to make decisions with the best interest of the community in mind. I do not have a personal agenda and am flexible and open-minded about different perspectives. The bottom line is that I care about this community and want to utilize my experience to help ensure that Humble ISD remains a premier district in the Houston area which sets our students up for college and/or career success. I also want to utilize my experience as a CPA to ensure that the district is being a responsible steward of taxpayer money.
My year and a half on the Humble ISD School Board has been met with many challenges, including the Hurricane Harvey response/recovery and passing the largest Humble ISD bond in history. As a board, we have risen to many challenges and as a result we were recognized as the 2018 Texas School Board of the Year at the HEB Excellence in Education Awards. I have learned so much about our district and our community during this time, and know that there is so much more to be done. For example, the Texas public school finance system is on the verge of significant overhaul. As a CPA with extensive business experience, I have a lot to offer the district to help navigate such challenges.
My position is up for reelection on Saturday, May 4th. Please #KeepCarney and vote for me for Humble ISD Board of Trustees, Position 6!
